spread, understand the virus’s effects on citizens, and inform strategies to prevent transmission.
As governments begin to implement their recovery strategies and work to ramp up their
vaccination efforts, it will continue to prove invaluable.
This workshop with SDSN TReNDS will provide you with insights on how to best use data to inform your organisation’s recovery efforts and implement effective strategies. The workshop will also highlight practical approaches and guidance from practitioners who are dealing directly with the crisis ‘on-the-ground’ and share lessons learned.

Tom Moultrie, is an academic demographer based in South Africa whose work has focused on assessing and enhancing the quality of public data – particularly censuses – in developing countries to improve the evidence base for measuring and monitoring progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. His recent work has focused on COVID-19 response efforts, and he is working with the South African Government and the National Institute of Communicable Disease to build a real-time mortality monitoring model.
Philipp Schönrock, is Director of a Colombian-based think-tank, Cepei (Centro De Pensamiento Estratégico Internacional), that he founded in 2003. At Cepei he works with an interdisciplinary team to advise government officials and decision-makers on policy solutions to advance key data for sustainable development issues. In partnership with Tableau, his team at Cepei recently launched the COVID-19 Data and Innovation Centre, which aims to deliver data-based knowledge, innovation strategies, and policy recommendations to the UN COVID-19 Multi-Partner Trust Fund to strengthen response and recovery actions in the Global South.
Yvan Clermont, is the Director General of the Analytical Studies Branch at Statistics Canada where he is responsible for leading several teams of researchers that provide authoritative expertise and which produce high quality, relevant, and timely information on economic, health, and social issues important to Canadians, governments, non-profit organisations, and institutions. His recent work has focused on coordinating the pandemic response efforts for Statistics Canada.
