Every public servant has an invaluable story to tell — case studies, solutions, common challenges, opinions and experiences. Maybe you already share these on various platforms like social media, blogs and newsletters. But how do you ensure your work reaches the right audience?
Apolitical is a platform designed to help public servants and policymakers share their insights, stories and ideas with each other. Anyone in government can publish an article, and Apolitical will distribute it to a global audience of peers. By sharing effective solutions to policy problems, you can help colleagues in other countries, regions or cities facing similar challenges.
Whether it's a problem you encountered or a story you believe needs to be told, if it's relevant to life in government, it belongs on Apolitical. Any public servant or policymaker can log in to their Apolitical account and just start writing.
Join Apolitical today, and let your voice be heard across the global public service.
How do I write an article?
Just start writing, either on Apolitical or wherever you enjoy writing most. Be sure to give it a title and a subtitle — and avoid making it too long. Once you’re done, post it on Apolitical. Don’t forget to make sure it aligns with our Values and Guidelines.
We will remove contributions that:
Don’t benefit the learning of public servants

Contain factually incorrect information

Pursue a specific political agenda
Are self-promotional
Aim to slander individuals, departments or governments

Not sure where to start?
Read a few articles before writing your own. Once you feel confident about your angle, just start writing! There’s no right or wrong way to approach writing an Apolitical article.
For anyone writing an article for the first time, here’s a bit of advice.
Aim for 800 words or less. Public servants are busy and have limited time. Keep your paragraphs short — approximately 5 lines. Make sure you cover only one main idea in each paragraph. Simplify the structure. It’s fine to have short paragraphs.
Keep your title and subtitle simple and direct. Ask yourself: Would a public servant or policymaker know this article is for them based on the title/subtitle?
Keep your subtitle to one line, and use it to supplement any necessary information missing from your catchy, engaging title.
Write a strong introduction and provide value up front.
When creating headers, ask yourself: Do they accurately reflect the structure of the article? Do they make clear what’s in the paragraphs beneath it?
You may wish to disclose the use of AI in creating your article, for example in drafting ideas or editing. And remember, always review the outputs of an AI tool before hitting publish.
Finally, don’t forget each article will be linked to your Apolitical profile. Don’t forget to make sure it’s up to date before clicking publish.
