How accessible is Apolitical?
This accessibility statement applies to https://apolitical.co/home/
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. WCAG is consistently identified and upheld as the de facto global standard on website accessibility. Apolitical conducted an audit in September 2024 which found that the Apolitical website met the standards outlined in WCAG 2.2 AA. This means, at the time the audit report was written, all issues identified in the accessibility audit of the website have been fixed.
We understand that building a website that is accessible is critical to Apolitical’s mission, and therefore we have developed a website that allows users to:
Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
In order to deliver our live events, we utilise third party tools including Microsoft Teams. We carefully consider how to make virtual events more accessible, and as such we have followed Microsoft Team's Guidance to make virtual meetings accessible, including:
Enabling closed captions
Prepping event speakers to ensure they are set up for the meeting, including a sound check, cameras on and showing their face, and requesting they minimise distractions throughout the duration of the event
Microsoft Teams is navigable via keyboard commands, and is compatible with screen readers.
