The Open Data in Government is a community that supports public servants who are passionate about leveraging open data for the public good. Connect, ask questions, share best practices and collaborate on innovative projects to expand the impact of open data in government.
Event Description
The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled powerful tools for collecting and analysing open data. The potential benefits are huge, but exposing public datasets to AI tools comes with risks, from unintentionally undermining privacy to entrenching encoded biases. So, what needs to be done to ensure that AI remains a force for good in the data world?
This panel event brought together experts who discussed the evolving role of AI in data governance and the balance between openness and privacy. They explored the intersection of open data and AI, uncovering opportunities, challenges and future trends in government and beyond.

Prem Ramaswami, a product leader focused on technology and social impact. He leads Data Commons, making public data accessible to everyone. He previously led Sidewalk Labs (an Alphabet company) and Google Search's Social Impact projects. When not building products to make data sing, Prem spends hours building Lego cities with his two sons and watching way too much TV with his wife.
Yongyi Min, the Chief of the SDG Monitoring Section at the Statistics Division of the UNDESA. She oversees the global programme for SDGs monitoring and is the lead author of annual UN flagship reports such as The Sustainable Development Goals Report and The SDG Gender Snapshot. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Statistics from the University of Florida.
Jorge Rivera, Data Director at The ONE Campaign. He leads data.one.org, leveraging open data and AI to influence policy and decision making. Jorge builds data products that bring clarity to complex global challenges, including development and climate finance, sovereign debt and global health. Originally from Guatemala, Jorge holds a masters degree in international affairs from SciencesPo Paris.
