The Life in Government Community is a collaborative space designed for Apolitical members to connect with peers in the global public service and ask and answer questions on life in government.
Event Description
Are your meetings full of good intentions but light on progress? Facilitation is the difference between a room that talks and a team that decides.
Public servants often have to bring together people with different priorities, levels of authority and ways of working. Strong facilitation helps teams use their time well, handle tension with care and make space for quieter voices, including in hybrid settings.
In less time than a typical meeting, you'll learn how to set direction, guide discussions and close them with clear decisions and next steps. The event will leave you with a facilitation approach you can use in your next meeting, even when the stakes are high.

Vince Verlaan, experienced designer and facilitator of highly interactive meetings, workshops, open houses, forums/conferences, online events, and processes that bring people together. He specializes in public participation, stakeholder consultation, and engagement. These activities help citizens, businesses, governments, non-profits, universities and others understand each other, discuss difficult issues and opportunities, and to collaborate. He has worked in a wide range of sectors across Western Canada and internationally, has worked with all levels of government, and has completed 25+ projects for or with Indigenous communities.
