Event Description
In a year of potential leadership shifts and policy changes, elected officials and public servants must collaborate seamlessly. But it’s not uncommon for the two groups to experience fraught communication and collaboration.
This third event in ‘The Election Year Event Series’ helped public servants understand the perspectives of politicians and elected officials and vice versa. The panel discussed how these groups can better understand and support each other, ensuring smooth transitions and continuity in public services.

Patrick Case, LSM, LL.B., LL.M. is the Former Assistant Deputy Minister, Educational Equity Secretariat in the Ministry of Education. He is an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School and director of the Osgoode Hall Law School Certificate Program in Human Rights Theory and Practice. He has been a trade unionist, school trustee, and a practitioner whose chief focus was serving women who were victims of male violence. Case has served as a staff lawyer in the Family Law Division at Parkdale Community Legal Services. He is the past chair of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, which was created as a part of the federal government’s redress agreement with Japanese Canadians, and has been a member of the Equality Rights Panel of the Court Challenges Program of Canada.
Nadia Abdalla, a dynamic and resourceful expert in policy, communication and stakeholder relations, is renowned for delivering outstanding outcomes and top-tier results. Nadia sits on several Global and Pan African Boards sharing her expertise to amplify impact, growth and stakeholder influence. Having served as the Youngest Deputy Minister (Chief Administrative Secretary) at Kenya's 4th Government in the Ministry of ICT, Innovation, and Youth Affairs for three years, Nadia boasts a strong academic foundation. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Mass Communications with a minor in Journalism, complemented by a Master of Arts in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy.
Carlo André Angeles Maturano, a seasoned professional with extensive expertise in research, partnership development, strategic communication, and stakeholder engagement for sustainable development. With over a decade of experience in international development, environmental advocacy, and climate policy, he has led high-impact initiatives across Latin America and globally. Carlo has held influential roles in prestigious organizations like the World Economic Forum and the Andean Parliament, where he co-authored critical policy documents, including the Andean Parliament’s Amazon Report. His work has been recognized with multiple international awards, and he continues to contribute to global discussions on international sustainable development through his professional and voluntary engagements
