Promoting psychological safety in your team

It is not a secret that leadership involves difficult choices, regardless of your team size. Oftentimes it can be like spinning plates. Lots of different considerations to balance and consider, some which can be at times conflicting. For example, if we focus on productivity, then we might risk declining levels of staff welfare. However, in this course, we will be discussing Psychological Safety, which offers teams a chance to increase productivity, efficiency and staff welfare and retention.

Over the course of four short lessons, you will be able to define psychological safety and identify its benefits. We explore the role of feedback within an atmosphere of psychological safety, how to give good feedback, how the feedback you give can affect wider team communication, and how you should set an example through the desire for feedback as a leader, as well as feedback's role in the creation of adaptive, problem-solving. Lastly, on top of this foundational knowledge, we shall outline methods and practices that leaders can implement with a view of ensuring a psychologically safe workplace. In the final lesson we will use reflective techniques to internalise the ideas discussed in the course and ponder on some of the ways that creativity and problem-solving has been hindered by a lack of psychological safety.
