The Managing People in Public Service Community is a space to conversations, insights, ideas and resources on management in government from your peers across the global public service.
Event Description
When deadlines are looming and your capacity is limited, sometimes the last thing you need is another meeting. But 1:1s are not meant to be like just any other meeting – they should be a meaningful encounter between civil servants and their managers that enhances trust, unlocks development and drives clarity. When done well, they offer rare protected space for honest conversation and practical support – not just another item on a checklist.
For public servants, especially those with managerial responsibilities, making 1:1s impactful is essential. These conversations must work hard: they should be focused, responsive to the individual and lead to clear outcomes. In fast-paced environments where performance and wellbeing are closely linked, a good 1:1 can be the difference between a motivated team member and one who feels overlooked. For those not managing others, 1:1s are a chance to be heard, guided and empowered in their role.
Join this masterclass to learn best practices from across sectors and explore what makes a 1:1 work. Our speakers will cover practical techniques for making 1:1s more useful, less awkward and a vital part of the leadership and development toolkit.
