The Career Development Community is a collaborative space designed for conversations, insights, ideas and resources on career development in government from your peers across the global public service. This community is open to all Apolitical members.
Event Description
You’re doing the work. But are you getting the visibility you need? In government, your contributions can get lost amongst shifting priorities from leadership and long chains of sign-off.
Public servants tend to avoid talking about achievements because it can feel awkward, especially in hierarchical cultures where recognition often goes to the most senior person, the loudest voice or the last team to touch the work. Yet if your value isn’t visible, you might miss out on promotions and opportunities to grow your skillset.
In this session, you’ll hear from public servants on how to describe your work in a way that leads to recognition, unlocks support and strengthens your influence with decision-makers. You’ll learn how to frame impact for different audiences, from senior leaders to line managers to close collaborators. The event will leave you with tips and approaches you can use to make your value visible across day-to-day interactions.
