Event description
Global climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and public servants around the world are being asked to take action.
But to be able to really inspire change and influence others’ perceptions or behaviour, it’s vital to communicate effectively about the problem.
The panel of experts includes former speechwriter for the Obama administration and US Environmental Protection Agency, Kevin Samy, and Maggie Dewane who worked on the White House Council on Environmental Quality and United States Senate. They will explore all things language and comms when it comes to climate, and share their top tips.

Kevin Samy, Kevin Samy is a climate change and energy security policy expert. He served as an advisor and speechwriter in various capacities within the Obama Administration, including the White House, US EPA, Department of Energy, and Pentagon. Recognized as a Forbes 30 under 30 recipient in 2016, he now advises CEOs and climate tech founders, helping them forge stronger connections with public policy stakeholders.
Maggie Dewane, Maggie Dewane is a writer and filmmaker sharing stories from all seven continents on climate change and conservation. She co-hosts a wildlife podcast, The Watering Hole, and currently works for the Center for Progressive Reform. Previously, Maggie worked for the Marine Stewardship Council and Environmental Investigation Agency, as well as the White House Council on Environmental Quality and United States Senate. She holds an MPA from Columbia University and a BS from Seton Hall University.
