Event Description
Voluntary action has been a key part of the growth of net zero, and voluntary guidance is playing a critical role in setting the bar and defining net zero for organisations at every level. Concerns remain about the credibility of targets, and while net zero policy and regulation is growing, there remain gaps in government measures to ensure the integrity of net zero commitments.
In this masterclass, Oxford Net Zero’s Kaya Axelsson will present her team’s recent research on mapping of emerging best practice across net zero regulation and standards, and net zero opportunities for local policy.

Kaya Axelsson
Net Zero Policy Engagement Fellow at Oxford Net Zero, University of Oxford

Kaya Axelsson, Net Zero Policy Engagement Fellow at Oxford Net Zero, works in the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford to support the practical application of net zero research insights. Kaya leads a team of researchers to aggregate and clearly communicate resources for defining and achieving net zero on a new digital platform for engaging businesses and policy makers. Kaya also hosts regular engagement events with the business and policy community. Previously, Kaya was Vice-President at the Oxford Student Union where she helped to develop the University of Oxford's own sustainability strategy, including its pathway to net zero. Kaya holds an Mphil in Comparative Government where she earned a distinction for her thesis on the success of unlikely renewable energy coalitions.
