‘Inclusion’ should not be a tick-box exercise, especially in the public service.
If governments are to meaningfully represent all citizens, their public service needs to be a reflection of the society it serves. But creating an inclusive workplace is more than just implementing a policy; it’s about recognising the range of individual experiences and empowering everyone to contribute and feel valued.
This workshop will unpack how you can practice and promote inclusion in the workplace. You’ll hear from public servants who have first-hand experience of implementing inclusive practices to foster an atmosphere where everyone feels supported to thrive.
You’ll learn:
- Why inclusive practices are vital in government and the myriad spheres they cover, including gender, race and ability
- Different techniques and initiatives employed by public servants around the world to make the workplace more inclusive
- How to always keep inclusivity and accessibility at the forefront of decision-making

She has introduced various new working practises like introducing 15 minute comfort breaks for Muslims during fasting and ensuring prayer rooms are kept open for the public and staff during work hours whilst Muslims are fasting. She has featured in the Speakers Commonwealth Exhibition.
Kimberley Hutchinson, Instructional designer, mind mapper, and Senior Analyst at the Digital Academy at the Canada School of Public Service. She has worked for Canada’s public service since 1996 for a number of departments in the Yukon Territory and in Ottawa, including the Public Service Commission, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Women and Gender Equality. She is passionate about learning, ideas, equality and inclusion.
