On our current trajectory, it will take 135.6 years to close the gender gap globally, and more than 2.1 billion women and girls will live in countries that will not reach any key gender equality targets by 2030. This is why it is necessary to act in a bold way to achieve gender equality. The Generation Equality Forum (GEF) seeks to build a global movement for gender equality that will deliver concrete progress for women and girls in all their diversity by 2026.
As part of our commitment to gender equity, we launched a unique fellowship for 28 policymakers from 18 countries who are actively working on a policy/program/service that can drive significant change in gender equity. The fellowship, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, provided leadership skills, policy focused knowledge and access to a global community of experts, advisors and peers.
Watch the Fellows in this free online workshop to learn the role of feminist leadership within public service and how it increases gender equality. You’ll also hear about our Fellows’ work and learnings, and join us in celebrating their graduation.

Hon. Michele Pierre-Louis, served as the Prime Minister of Haiti from 2008 to 2009, and is the second woman to hold this position. She was born in 1947 and studied Economics at the University of New York where she got her MA in 1976. She holds honorary degrees in the humanities from Saint Michael College, Vermont, and the University of San Francisco. Currently, she acts as the President of the Fondation Connaissance et Liberté – FOKAL and is the Director of the Reconstruction and Development Programme of the Open Society Institute in New York.
Sarah Hendriks, Director of the Policy, Programme & Intergovernmental Division at UN Women, is a visionary leader and executive in global development with more than 20 years in program and policy work on gender equality. An influential communicator, Sarah is recognized as an authoritative voice on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. Previously she was Director, Gender Equality, at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and led the foundation’s efforts to achieve substantive and sustainable results in promoting gender equality and unlocking the empowerment of women and girls.
Malado Kaba, the first female Economy and Finance Minister of the Republic of Guinea, is an accomplished leader in international development and finance. During her time as Finance Minister, she achieved record macroeconomic results and led successful actions to increase fiscal transparency, fight corruption and promote good governance. Currently, she is the managing director of Falémé Conseil, a consultancy that provides advisory services to public and private sector organisations. Malado is certified as a non-executive independent director of the Institute of Directors in London and sits on the Advisory Board of the African Women Investment Fund (AWIF) of the Economic Commission for Africa.
