Event Description
Local government is the key to a thriving community. Public servants at the local level face the same challenges as all other public servants, from climate change to public health crises and adapting to emerging technologies. But local government is often even more resource-strapped and budget-constrained.
Public servants at the local level need the right skills to respond to all these challenges and transform local governance at the same time. They also need knowledge and information that is specific to their context.
This event is for public servants at the local level and focuses on equipping you with practical skills, from strategic collaboration and team building to change management.

Tina Walha, the Chief Partnerships Officer of U.S. Digital Response, a nonpartisan nonprofit that places experienced, pro-bono technologists to support state and local governments in responding to constituent needs. Prior to USDR, she served as Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Seattle and Policy Advisor in the New York City Mayor's Office. She also worked as a management consultant, learning from public servants at the city, county, state, Federal, and international level while setting organizational strategy and exploring opportunities for impact. Walha has a Master’s in Public Administration and Urban Policy and Planning from Princeton University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Bruno Ávila Eça de Matos, Head of Digitalization, Process and Information at the Project Management Bureau of the City of Amsterdam. Former i-Team Director and Head of the Digital Urban Planning Lab. Architect and Urban Designer, holds a Masters in Urban Planning (State University of New York at Buffalo), a Masters in Smart City Manager (Zigurat/Universitat de Barcelona) and an Engineering Doctorate (Eindhoven University of Technology). Bruno has many years of experience in government always at the crossroads of digital innovation, spatial planning and community engagement.
Hugh Smith, Corporate Strategy Portfolio Lead at the London Borough of Camden, an inner-London local authority that has developed a missions approach to delivering change in partnership with local communities. Hugh has worked in local government in London since 2016, and during this time he has led work on youth safety, migration, adult social care, finance, and welfare policy among other areas. Prior to this he worked in a frontline homelessness service supporting adults with complex needs.
