Charles Lister OBE, Dods Training Associate, led policy programmes at the Department of Health before becoming Head of Policy at the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA), the UK fertility regulator. While at the HFEA, he also led a major change programme covering the regulator’s inspection, licensing and enforcement functions. For the past 10 years, Charles has been an Associate with Dods Training, running workshops for government departments, mainly on policy making, negotiating and influencing and advising and briefing Ministers. He currently chairs the Caldecott Foundation, a charity providing therapeutic residential care, fostering and education for vulnerable young people from across the UK.
Katie Driver, Dods Training Associate, has rich experience of policy development and design. An experienced policymaker and senior civil servant, she led design and delivery of the UK Department for Education’s first policy curriculum and training in support of the newly emerging Policy Profession. She was also responsible for improving the use and value of impact assessments required under the Equality Act and in relation to areas such as better regulation and sustainability. Since leaving the civil service, Katie has continued to design and deliver training courses and programmes for public servants and public policy partners in the UK and overseas. She regularly leads strategic thinking, leadership and policy development courses, particularly focusing on the importance of design thinking, working closely with users and stakeholders, and the approaches and behaviours which underpin success in complex, dynamic systems. Katie has led design and delivery of three suites of training events for the Welsh Government (practitioner, team leader and newly inducted SCS), incorporating tools and approaches such as the triple diamond, logical frameworks, customer journey mapping and empathy mapping, and relating these to the five ways of working and other Future Generations Act requirements.
