Namibia is using phone records to target medical resources to the people most at risk of contracting malaria. Researchers analysed 1.19 million anonymous phone records to track population movements, then compared the data to satellite images mapping environmental conditions conducive to the disease. Using these risk maps, Namibia was able to target health interventions to 80,000 people, rather than the 1.2 million the government had previously estimated were at risk.
