A group of textile manufacturers and a campaigning NGO want to partner with the Indian government to build housing for up to 300,000 mainly migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. The $1.24 billion initiative aims to tackle the endemic abuse of garment factory workers, many of whom sleep next to their machines, by providing accommodation and access to parks, schools and hospitals.
