Local councils in England have increased the amount the public is recycling by incentivising them with rewards. Recyclers collect loyalty points that can be used in cafes, restaurants and shops, or donated to provide repairs or equipment for local churches, mosques, scout groups and schools. Recycling rates in the UK have flatlined at 45% in recent years; the government is obliged to meet a target of 50%.
