‘Building the AI-Ready Government: An Essential Action Plan for Leaders’, a new report from Apolitical was published today.
The report sets out an action plan for government leaders at all stages of a government’s journey – from getting the foundations in place, to acceleration, to deploying AI across government at scale. Drawing on data, insights, interviews and examples from around the world, it sets out three areas for leadership:
defining a clear strategy
investing in people and skills and
building strong institutional governance for AI.
The framework is designed to help government leaders guide their teams and organisations towards large-scale, responsible and ethical use of generative AI.
Apolitical’s 2024 global research shows only 15% of public servants have received training in AI, despite it being the most transformative technology of our time. Without the skills and knowledge to understand and keep up with AI’s evolution, governments risk falling behind. A unique opportunity to transform delivery for citizens could be missed. The report is published with support from The Rockefeller Foundation and Google.org.
Robyn Scott, CEO and co-founder of Apolitical said: “AI-ready leaders are better users, better buyers and better regulators of AI. Building AI confidence and competence across entire government workforces can mean a lower administrative burden, more strategic and sustainable procurement, better value for taxpayers’ money – and ultimately more positive outcomes for citizens.”
