Sabrine Barakat, a senior speechwriter, has worked in nearly all aspects of communications for Canada’s federal government for more than 15 years, and she has a healthy track record of non-government marketing experience as well. A passionate word-nerd who loves writing, people and politics, she loves her current role as speechwriter at Global Affairs Canada because she gets paid to put words into ministers’ mouths. Sabrine loves help others write better, and she can’t wait to share some of her tips to help demystify the writing process.
Alain Ruche, a Belgian citizen and now a retired EU senior official living in Brussels, worked for nearly three decades at the UN, the WB, and, mainly, at the EU External Service, with assignments in four continents. Alain focused on complexity and how to look at things from another angle, including the role of artists in social change. He is a long-standing practitioner of collective intelligence techniques with (ex) affiliations at The Club of Rome (EU Chapter), The UK Royal Society of Arts (EU Connector), The Global Salzburg Seminar, Kosmos Journal adviser, and Mentor at Duo for a Job.
Nina Brandt, has been with the United Nations for over 17 years and currently coordinates the strategic programming of capacity development support to governments, to assist countries in the design of policies and strategies that help implement the SDGs. Passionate about “connecting things and people”, she also led a global outreach program called “UN Development Business” that connects the private sector to business opportunities in developing countries. During that time, she participated as a speaker in numerous events, conferences and panel discussions with audiences from all over the world. Nina started her career as a radio reporter where she gained first-hand experience in conducting smooth conversations and engaging with listeners. As a former Fulbright Scholar, a WomeninPower Fellow and a DAAD and Landesstiftung Baden-Wuerttemberg Scholar, she studied and worked in 5 countries and holds a Diplom in Psychology from Heidelberg University, a Master’s in Media from the New School and a Diploma in Advanced Management from IESE Business School.
