As a trained pharmaceutical chemist working across industry, public policy and academia, it was the AI Campus AI and the Future of Healthcare Systems course that Tommaso Emanuelli found particularly useful. The course covers the key applications of AI in healthcare and the ethical, regulatory and practical challenges of implementation — empowering public servants to make informed decisions in the field.
In many ways, Tommaso’s role reflects the growing intersections between science, health and policymaking in Italy. He works with the Ordine dei Farmacisti — the national professional body for pharmacists. The organisation plays an active role in shaping national health policy, including innovative drug use prevention projects in schools and broader behavioural health initiatives. And he also continues to work in a pharmacy to stay connected to the profession!
Prior to enrolling on the AI campus course, Tommaso already had a strong technical foundation in AI, including training in machine learning and data analysis. He’d already begun applying AI in his pharmacy — from summarising scientific articles and tracking inventory to communicating complex medical information to patients more clearly.
The AI and the Future of Healthcare Systems course impressed Tommaso in several ways.

Tommaso is also active in a new policy think tank in Turin focused on local governance and innovation. For him, the course has huge potential to inform public health policy — from tackling antimicrobial resistance to shaping smart city planning.
