1. Course summary

You’ve come to the final lesson of Understand How AI Impacts You and Your Government. Congratulations on completing this course! Over the past four sections, you’ve learned that AI is not as new, scary, or even as ‘intelligent’ as you first thought. You’ve built the confidence to test and explore AI tools and share the ideas you’ve found helpful with your colleagues. Let’s quickly recap what you’ve covered.

You started this course with a quiz that placed AI into the perspective of its history as a well-developed field of scientific research. You learned that ‘machine learning’ is what most people are talking about when ‘AI’ is discussed today. You learned that you are already using AI every day, both at home and at work.

In Section 2, you discovered specific examples of how AI has been used in the public sector. You tested your intuition for risks and read case studies about the real-world impact AI can have on citizens when things go wrong. You also learned about the potential of AI to help governments solve big societal problems.

In Section 3, you explored the potential of generative AI from a practical perspective, jumping into your ‘personal sandbox’ to explore tools as an individual. You participated in creative activities that enabled you to discover the differences between artificial and human intelligence first-hand. You identified some of your role’s pain points before being introduced to ideas that could help you solve specific challenges in your role. You learned that making repetitive and time-consuming parts of your job easier could free up time to serve citizens better.

In the final section of this course, you prepared to have a productive conversation about AI with your colleagues. Each lesson walked you through topics to guide an informed discussion about the use of AI in government and readied you for the collaborative task of integrating AI innovations in the public service at a responsible pace.
