Less than a year ago, the Government AI Campus was launched in 12 languages to prepare public servants and policymakers for the age of AI, powered by Apolitical with support from Google.org and the Rockefeller Foundation. Today, the AI Campus has reached an inspiring milestone:

Governments around the world have ambitious plans and strategies to use AI to speed up work, but there is a growing recognition that training is the critical gap between knowing how to use AI tools effectively (and safely), or not.
“Training half a million public servants on the Government AI Campus shows that governments are realising that to succeed in the age of AI, they need to equip their workforces at speed and scale,” said Robyn Scott, Apolitical Co-founder and CEO. “75% of public servants on the Government AI Campus report being more confident in using AI tools and techniques. And Apolitical’s research shows a strong correlation between AI confidence and AI usage. And more responsible AI usage in government ultimately means better public services and better value for taxpayers.”

The Government AI Campus has grown into a thriving and trusted hub of online courses, learning resources, tools, and peer-to-peer exchange for government officials. The Campus’s AI in Government community has grown to over 30,000 members from around the world, a significant proportion of whom are senior leaders. The AI Readiness Check, a simple six-minute assessment to kickstart one’s AI journey, has had nearly 9,000 submissions, making it the single largest global dataset of government AI capability.
Several governments have partnered with the Government AI Campus to rapidly transform their workforces, treating AI literacy as a core competency for every public servant:
🇷🇼 Rwanda: Rwanda's Ministry of ICT and Innovation and Ministry of Public Service and Labour made the AI Campus's flagship course, Understand How AI Impacts You and Your Government, mandatory for their entire public service. Nearly 200,000 public servants — of which at least 76% are frontline workers — have now completed the training.
🇮🇳 India: 100,000 civil servants have taken the course via the India Capacity Building Commission's iGOT Karmayogi platform.
🇦🇪 UAE: The course has also been mandated across the government of the United Arab Emirates by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR).
Data from the AI Campus makes clear that this investment in training is giving them confidence, making them more effective at their jobs and is highly relevant to their daily work:
Public servants who feel confident using AI use it more frequently and identify more valuable applications of the technology (based on more than 4,500 responses).
84% of public servants were in agreement that the AI Campus made them more effective at their job (based on more than 10,000 responses).
87% of public servants were in agreement that the AI Campus training was relevant to their daily work (based on more than 10,000 responses).
"It really helped me deepen my understanding of AI despite already having a technical background. It also helped me navigate the complexities of adopting this emerging technology within the bureaucratic structure of the public sector,” said Edward Kipkalya, a public servant and youth leader from Kenya. “The Campus changed the way I work. It’s a game changer.”
With the ambition to train one million trained public servants by the end of 2026, the Government AI Campus is freely available to governments around the world.
