Apolitical launched the inaugural Government AI 100 in 2025 to recognise public servants who were often “firsts”: the world's first minister for AI, directors of the first AI safety institute and designers of the first AI tools for frontline officials.
Much of that “first” work has become part of how governments run. Previously piloted AI tools are in daily use, while departments have been created, merged and abolished around AI.
Now, AI leaders in government make decisions that affect services millions of people use. The AI 100 celebrates their work as a global reference point and places them among the leading practitioners of AI in government worldwide.
The 2027 Government AI 100 will recognise 100 bold leaders across five categories: strategists, regulators, builders, enablers and visionaries. If you know a public servant doing this work in any country and at any level of government, nominate them before 18 October.
