Works from existing traffic surveillance footage.
The City lacked an internal automated, scalable and real-time method for accurately monitoring traffic volume and vehicle speeds. Traditional traffic study methods are often manual, resource-intensive and provide limited data snapshots, which hinders the ability of urban planners and safety officials to make timely, data-driven decisions to optimize traffic flow and enhance road safety.
CityVision offers a solution that utilizes computer vision to perform vehicle counting and speed estimation from traffic surveillance footage. This project was built using open source tools within existing budget.
The CityVision project has demonstrated substantial cost-saving potential and driven international interest in the City's AI capabilities.
