Zambia has enlisted the funding and resources of the private sector to run a nationwide campaign against HIV. By highlighting the negative impact HIV has on economic growth in a country where 12.9% of people are infected, it has secured donations and support from businesses in tourism, mining and agriculture. The project has included awareness-raising events, workplace education on HIV prevention, treatment provision and screening clinics, and in three years has reached a total of more than 3 million people across the country.
