Ensuring you’re across the latest developments in policy can be a struggle. Apolitical tries to keep you up to date. Here are four key recent developments you may have missed.
1. The State of Carbon Pricing in Canada by the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices (summary report) This report outlines five challenges with carbon pricing in Canada and provides recommendations moving forward. This is interesting because we have set a great foundation in Canada to get carbon pricing off the ground in many jurisdictions; now it’s time to tune up in time for 2030.
2. The Indigenous Perspectives Case Study series by the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices Created by Indigenous researchers and Knowledge Holders to showcase the role of Indigenous-led research and policy in building a resilient, low-carbon, and prosperous future.
3. Report by Nature United on Natural Climate Solutions This hot-off-the-press peer-reviewed paper identifies ways in which Canada can reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 78 megatonnes CO2e by 2030 using natural climate solutions that better protect, manage and restore nature.
4. G7 Climate and Environment Ministers’ communique This latest missive from those leading the G7 on environment and climate matters shows the level of ambition that we were able to get agreement on and the direction that things could go for some time.
