A parenting program has cut physical abuse of adolescents by 48% in communities where it was introduced. Initially developed in South Africa, Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) is now in pilot in the Philippines, where it is being trialled as part of the government's cash transfer program, which gives small weekly payments to society's poorest. In order to receive weekly welfare payments, parents have to attend PLH parenting classes.
