Yalla Trappan is a worker-owned social enterprise that brings immigrant women into the workforce in an ethnically segregated part of Malmö. It offers three services - catering, cleaning and tailoring - that make use of the women’s skills and between them bring in almost $700,000 a year before grants and subsidies. Since its inception, the enterprise has grown at an average annual rate of 30% in both revenue and employment. It now employs 40 women and has set up a mentorship and licensing scheme to spread the model across Sweden and beyond.
