How To Be Loved As A Leader, A Rare Feat

Within today's society, we rarely encounter leaders who are loved, not feared. Dictators are more prominent than ever, and almost every government faces great struggle due to such hierarchical issues. Most leaders are feared and hated, not loved and powerful.

However, one thing that many individuals tend to forget is that true leadership is led by empathy, understanding, intelligence, loyalty, and love. Leadership is not the strive or hunger for greater power and control. Many are blinded by such desires, therefore tend to forget the simple things that I, a nobody who's opinion does not matter to powerful governments, plans to discuss throughout this article.

According to Google definition, a leader is a person who commands a group, organization, country, or community of people. Now the word "commands" greatly differs from the word "oppresses." Let's compare the two:

• "Commands" refers to the action of giving authoritative orders, however is in no way shape or form unjust or potentially harmful.

• "Oppresses" refers to the action of keeping someone, or a group of people, in subjection and hardship, especially by the unjust exercise of authority.

A leader commands, a dictator oppresses. In order to be loved, a leader must understand the difference between the two, and always command their subjects, not oppress them.

A leader must understand that communities are diverse, yet everybody should have at least one thing in common. Basic human rights, which is a term that refers to the fundamental rights and freedoms that every individual is entitled to. These rights should include:

• Security and safety.

• Education.

• Health care.

• Right to life.

• Freedom from torture and inhumane treatment.

• Fair trial.

• Freedom of thought, speech, conscience, expression, opinion, culture, ethnicity, and religion.

• Privacy.

• Labor and fair wages.

The revoking of such rights is inhumane, unfair, unjust, and unacceptable.

A leader must do as they say, and say what they truly mean. Loyalty to your subjects, loyalty to your word, and loyalty to your environment is one of the most important characteristics of a truly loved and looked up to leader.

Lead with understanding. The understanding that you are equal to all of your subjects in worth, despite your authoritative position. The understanding that you are all human beings with beating hearts, and blood that flows. The appreciation for your position, and the understanding that you are lucky, and you must use that luck to benefit not just yourself but others.

You are who you are because of your people. You are who you are because of the position that people have granted you. Never forget where you came from, and how you came to be.
