This is week 2 in the boot camp 'How to Work Remotely, Through COVID & Beyond'.

Any successful event or workshop needs to be carefully designed to ensure it achieves the desired results. This is especially true for virtual workshops or events, where one of the secrets for success is to create frequent opportunities for meaningful engagement and reward attentive participation. This week, you'll explore tips and tricks for designing online meetings that capture your audience's attention and achieve your objectives.

1: Watch this interview on running effective and participatory online meetings Read this article and watch this interview with Kal Joffres, Advisor, Strategic Innovation at UNDP.

2: Get the 'Guide to Remote Meetings' Download Apolitical's 'Guide to Remote Meetings' to get 15 ways to not only plan and run successful and memorable remote meetings, but also to embrace the upsides that they offer. Make sure to look at the quick checklist at the end of the document, with tips on what to do before, during, and after your meeting.

3: Complete this activity before watching this week's live event Imagine you're running an online event. On a piece of paper or your computer, think through the following questions:

  1. What are you trying to accomplish with this event or meeting? Write down at least three tangible outcomes you'd like to achieve.
  2. How many people will be coming to this event or meeting?
  3. How will you engage people using the tools you have available? Brainstorm some ways that you might connect with your attendees, keeping in mind how many people will be on the call.

4: Watch the recording of this week's live event This week, we heard from Kal Joffres, Advisor, Strategic Innovation at UNDP, about how to design a remote workshop. You can watch a recording of the session here.
