Governments crunch data to find out why people are dying

20 countries including Zambia, Brazil and Bangladesh are making better decisions about health by building detailed records of when and how their citizens die. Bloomberg Philanthropies is working with governments to gather information about births and deaths, providing technology to build databases of the major causes of mortality, training health workers to carry out verbal autopsies, and designing new death certificates with useful details for doctors and policy makers. It is also supporting governments to analyse data, helping them make good decisions about where to best direct public health resources.
