The Gambia pays locals to make nutritious school lunches

The Gambia is bringing nutritious meals to students and supporting local farmers with a community-owned, locally sourced school lunches campaign. Direct cash transfers are made from the World Food Program to small businesses or volunteer groups, who work to source and design meals for schoolchildren, buying from local farmers, parents or community gardens and including families in the preparation of meals. The program assisted nearly 60,000 people in its first month of operation.
