Your job title: Senior Director, Investment
How would you describe your job to a friend?
Public and private sector development through policy analysis and project implementation for investment, international trade, energy, environment, and small business development.
I have been involved with infrastructure projects for several government agencies; reform of the incentives framework; investor facilitation; negotiations for bilateral investment treaties and trade agreements; national investment policies; and the development of the framework for Special Economic Zones.
My current responsibilities include guiding the development of appropriate policies and programmes to expand investments and maximise their benefits in collaboration with stakeholders.
What are your daily/weekly/monthly responsibilities?:
Research on policy issues affecting investments, preparing cabinet submissions and reports, developing positions on international negotiations affecting investments, monitoring and evaluating projects, evaluating public procurement contracts, participating and chairing relevant meetings.
What does your successor need to know to succeed?
Economic and financial analysis, investment and trade law, environmental assessment and relevant laws, government regulations, procurement laws, Public-Private Partnership policies, negotiating skills, and budgeting skills.
What are some current projects you're working on?
National Sourcing Policy; National Agribusiness Strategy; Global Digital Services Strategy; Screen Development Initiative; National Business Portal; Study to determine whether the divestment of public assets is being executed through coherent strategies aimed at achieving economic and social goals, and whether the divestment process is being implemented effectively and efficiently completed; Gap Analysis to determine what are the shortfalls in investment facilitation measures and what support is required completed; Business Environment Reforms; World Trade Organization Discussions on Investment Facilitation for Development; and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law reform of Investor State Dispute Settlement.
