We asked members of the Apolitical Community to write-up a prospective “exit memo” for their role to increase visibility of the different kinds of work being done across government.
Your job title: Manager
How would you describe your job to a friend?
My current role as operations manager, I work with my team members so that day-to-day operation is driven smoothly, and tackle any hurdles with ease and cooperative team effort.
What are your daily/weekly/monthly responsibilities?
Daily, I monitor that operations are going on smoothly and answer queries. Weekly I generate various reports and attend various meetings. Monthly, I attend meetings with the management team and update them on operation activities, issues and achievements.
What does your successor need to know to succeed?
A successor will need to be groomed or job shadow for a couple of weeks. Also to make the successor proactive in day-to-day activities, I'd need engage him/her in the meetings I attend so that they are aware of what is happening and how to tackle issues.
What are some current projects you're working on?
At present, I'm working on various projects Ontario-wide. One is a site closure due to optimisation of office space that requires recycling of electronics, bringing to the end of life electrical and electronic equipment and batteries, and an online auction of some items.
