Exit memo: child protection specialist

We asked members of the Apolitical Community to write-up a prospective “exit memo” for their role to increase visibility of the different kinds of work being done across government.

Your job title: Child Protection Specialist

How would you describe your job to a friend?

Evaluate and give professional services to parents and caregivers who commit abuse and violence against children and teenagers. Support children and teenagers in elaborate trauma experiences. Coordinate with institutions to support children's human rights.

What are your daily/weekly/monthly responsibilities?

Attend families [to help them] through psychosocial support and crisis intervention by phone and face-to-face sessions. Elaborate reports to the legal area.

What does your successor need to know to succeed?

It is hard work so we need extreme self-care actions and organisational skills.

What are some current projects you're working on?

One is the Parents' Academy Skills to raise children without violence. Another is building a local network against violence and suicide.
