Exit Memo: Assurance Specialist

We asked members of the Apolitical Community to write-up a prospective “exit memo” for their role to increase visibility of the different kinds of work being done across government.

Job Title: Assurance Specialist

How would you describe your job to a friend?

I work with management across our organisation to ensure their controls are fit for purpose in managing risks by providing training, guidance, advice and improvement recommendations.

What are your daily/weekly/monthly responsibilities?

I always have a number of projects with differing degrees of complexity I am working on, but I also have core work such as planned assurance reviews.

What does your successor need to know to succeed?

Be prepared to learn a lot as you will work with teams across the organisation. Expect priorities to change fast and most importantly, be prepared to spin a lot of plates at the same time.

What are some current projects you’re working on?

I am currently working on developing a suite of simple and easy-to-use materials and 'how to' guides which will enable and empower management to articulate and manage their risks and controls in a consistent manner. I am also developing a holistic tool for tracking, management and reporting of actions and recommendations stemming from assurance and audit reviews.
