In the largest hydrogen-fuel project of its kind in Europe, the European Commission will build 55 refuelling stations and deploy 1,735 emissions-free cars, vans and trucks across the continent. To break a stalemate in which manufacturers are reluctant to produce cars that can hardly be refuelled, the project has brought them together with fuel suppliers and government bodies keen to support the technology. The vehicles produce no harmful emissions.
