At COP26 in Glasgow, the expectations for a positive and encouraging outcome of the conference were running lower and lower, as the end of the summit was fast approaching. Unexpectedly, China and USA announced a surprising climate agreement between the two countries, with the aim of boosting climate collaboration towards an effective solution to address climate change. The announcement came as a surprise, considering the lack of cooperation on a geopolitical level between the two (not to forget the tension during the Trump presidency) and the fact that they are among the biggest CO2 emitters worldwide. Moreover, China's President, Xi Jinping, was not even present in Glasgow for COP26.

This sudden pledge is yet to be verified and actually developed in its details, thus the international arena is still cautious in its response, and will carefully watch the unfolding of this announcement, to evaluate the steps that will be carried out by China and USA: the pledge has been done, now they need to stick to the commitment and propose a serious path towards a more sustainable future.
