Chile has partnered with Teco Group and national universities to develop a new data analysis method, identifying the most economically and environmentally efficient locations to construct hydroelectric dams. Using the technique, Chile will meet most of its demand for hydroelectricity with projects that leave 95% of the surrounding ecological and environmental systems unaffected. Hydroelectric energy is a priority for Chile, which aims to generate 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2050.
