Career advice from an operational policy manager

We’ve spoken to members of the Apolitical community to share their top three pieces of career advice with us. In this article, Allanah Andrews explains why it’s important to look for a new job while you’re happy in their role as an operational policy manager.

Your first piece of advice:

The best time to look for a new job is when you are happy and doing well in your current one. If you look for a new role when you are at the end of your tether, after you've been grinding it out at a job you don't like, or for a manager you don't trust, it will tarnish the process. You'll settle, and end up someone else you don't want to be. But on your best foot? You'll sell yourself with more confidence, believe more in what you can offer an employer, and without the push factors, you'll be free to select the best opportunity for you.

Your second piece of advice:

A hiring manager shouldn't be recruiting you, you should be recruiting them. Who do you want to work for?
