Career advice from an administrative assistant

What’s the best advice you ever received? What tips did you wish you knew earlier? How did this help you on your career journey?

We’ve spoken to members of the Apolitical community to share their top three pieces of career advice with us. In this article, Mava Pittterson explains why it’s important to always see your role as important to the team in their role as an administrative assistant.

Your first piece of advice:

To apply for a permanent position in the Ontario Public Service. That was back in 1987.

Your second piece of advice:

To enrol in the courses, training and conferences offered by Ontario Public Service. As of recently, my current manager suggested courses offered by our Finance Ministry.

Your third piece of advice:

To always see my role, as an administrative assistant, as an important part of the team. Recently my manager stressed this in the bi-weekly one to one session. This advice gives me more motivation to be the best I can be in my role.
