What’s the best advice you ever received? What tips did you wish you knew earlier? How did this help you on your career journey?

We’ve spoken to members of the Apolitical community to share their top three pieces of career advice with us. In this article, a number of members give their top tips.

Be true to yourself - stand up for your opinion.

Be generous - with yourself and others.

Don't be afraid of failure.

Learn and grow from your mistakes.

Own a situation and be a role model for others.

Your first piece of advice:

Believe in yourself and your capabilities. If you don't, no one else will.

Your second piece of advice:

Whatever you do, give it your 100% and sooner or later your hard work will come to fruition.

Your third piece of advice:

Say "YES" when opportunity knocks. Take up a challenge. Give it a go. You never know where the new experience or opportunity will take you.

It's all about managing things. If the plan goes awry, develop a new one and justify the change.

This is the public service, not academia. The drive to perfection is a driver to burnout in this context.

Pace yourself, this is a marathon, not a sprint.
