What’s the best advice you ever received? What tips did you wish you knew earlier? How did this help you on your career journey?

We’ve spoken to members of the Apolitical community to share their top three pieces of career advice with us. In this article, Lis Ashby explains why it’s important to recognise careers can go in different directions in their role as a Strategic Policy Manager.

Your first piece of advice:

Your career won't progress in a straight line. You may find your 'dream role' isn't what you hoped, you may decide to focus more on family, or you may study so you can change to a new career path. It is important to be flexible.

Your second piece of advice:

Think about your career holistically. The ikigai model is a good place to start.

Your third piece of advice:

Approach everything as a learning experience. Reflect on your work: What worked well and didn't? Who do you look up to? What are you finding satisfying? This will help you refine where you want to be and what you need to get there....
