What’s it like to be a woman in government today?

That is the question we want you to answer in this year’s Apolitical Women in Public Service Writing Competition.

Women still only make up 6.6% of the world’s heads of state. We need more platforms that elevate the voices of women in government.

That is why we’re excited to launch our 2019 writing competition. It’s an opportunity to speak about your experience as a woman in government to tens of thousands of readers all over the world. To enter, all you need to do is to register your interest to Apolitical before the 3rd of July 2019. We will be in touch with details for how to submit your idea after that date.

The winner’s 700-900 word article will feature alongside other prominent members of Apolitical such,Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Former President of Liberia and the first female president in Africa, Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia, and Lindiwe Mazibuko, former leader of the opposition in South Africa.

Who can enter?

In addition to women in public service, we invite women in the third sector or academic who work closely with government to enter the competition. You don’t need prior writing experience to join — the only requirement is that you must have a profile on Apolitical. Entrants may remain anonymous if they wish.

The prizes

  • Your article will be featured on Apolitical and promoted directly to influential readers in 160 countries, including mayors, ministers and former heads of state
  • Get professional editing and advice on your writing
  • Receive a winner’s certificate
  • Become an “Apolitical thought leader” and have your profile and article sent to our community of female leaders (including those featured on Apolitical’s gender list)
  • Be added to our world map of government leaders and innovators
