Event Description
Communicating complex ideas in a simple, concise and persuasive way is integral to effective policymaking. Policy briefs play a crucial role in this process, but are tricky to master.
In this masterclass, participants will learn the art of writing the perfect policy brief: a tool designed to inform and persuade decision-makers. Led by experts in public policy communication, this session will cover best practices in structuring, writing and delivering clear, actionable briefs that capture attention and drive action.
Participants will gain insights into how different audiences, such as government officials, community leaders or industry experts, read policy briefs and what can help enable them to take the next step in implementation.

Canada
Peter Binfield-Smith, a Priority Project Lead at the UK’s Department for Transport. He has experience across diverse policy fields including major infrastructure, nature and water, and is currently specialising in fast-paced delivery of departmental priorities. Peter has led work in capability building across the civil service and is passionate about encouraging colleagues to develop skills, share knowledge and drive positive change.
Tiffany Landau, a policy leader with more than a decade of experience across the Ontario Public Service. Tiffany drives high-impact legislative reform, regulatory modernization, and digital governance. Her portfolio spans some of Ontario’s most consequential policy initiatives, from leadership on the province’s Trustworthy AI Framework to contributing to the first provincial framework for Indigenous policing under the Community Safety and Policing Act. She has also led the development of the Missing Persons Act, Ontario’s Strategy to End Human Trafficking, and landmark animal welfare legislation and regulations, including Canada’s first fully provincial animal welfare enforcement model. Currently serving as Team Lead of the Strategic Workforce Initiatives Unit at the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, Tiffany brings a human-centered approach to complex policy challenges, translating evidence and partner insights into clear, actionable direction for government decision-makers.
