The Carbon Neutral Cities is a dedicated space for public servants and policymakers at the city level working on transformative climate action.

This event is in collaboration with the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance (CNCA).
Imagine a world in which cities don’t pollute the planet, but actively contribute to building a healthier one... It’s not just a distant dream; cities around the world are already leading the way, demonstrating what carbon-neutral urban environments look like.
Public servants have been the drivers of these changes, leveraging policy, technology and community engagement to reduce carbon footprints. Their experience navigating the complex policy landscape of carbon neutrality is important as more cities ramp up their efforts to meet climate goals.
Join us to learn about and from cities that have made significant strides toward carbon neutrality. Our expert speakers will share their experiences, challenges and successes, offering a roadmap for others committed to creating sustainable urban environments.

Annika Jacobson, a seasoned environmental leader with expertise in climate policy, sustainable development, and organisational leadership. Currently Vice Chair at Viable Cities and Climate Action Coordinator for Stockholm, she has held influential roles, including State Secretary for Sweden’s Ministry of Environment and Country Director at Greenpeace.
Jessyn Farrell, Director of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability & Environment. Jessyn is a leader in public consensus-building on complex environmental and socio-economic issues. With a background spanning public, private, and nonprofit sectors, she has pioneered legislation in transit, housing, and worker protections, while also championing regional light rail investment.
Brad Badelt, Assistant Director of the City’s Sustainability Group. An environmental engineer by training, he has been involved in a diverse range of sustainability projects with the City, including sea level rise planning, extreme heat mapping and overseeing the green demolition program. He started his local government career nearly two decades ago, working in stormwater management and groundwater protection. An avid cyclist, Brad spends most weekends exploring Vancouver’s parks with his family.
Simone Mangili, the Executive Director at Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance. He has over 20 years of international experience ranging from local government to the private and non-profit sectors, working with cities on climate and urban sustainability systems. He holds a strong commitment to embedding social equity in policy development and implementation. Simone’s extensive experience reaches across resilience planning and urban redevelopment, to community engagement and green infrastructure, as well as food policy and circular economy initiatives.
