The AI in Government Community is a dedicated space for conversations, insights, ideas and resources on the use of AI in government from your peers across the global public service.
Event Description
The right tools can make frontline public services more effective, giving public servants doing this work more time to focus on what matters most—serving their communities. AI is already reported to be cutting paperwork by 70% in social care, reducing teacher workload by hours each week and streamlining many more frontline services. But, is it actually making public servants’ jobs easier? Or is it adding another layer of complexity?
This event brings together frontline workers who are using AI right now — in spaces like classrooms and services like care. They’ll share what’s working, what’s not and what every frontline public servant needs to know to make AI work for them. Expect real talk, practical insights and no hype—just honest lessons from those on the ground.

Rachel Protheroe, With over two decades in local government, Rachel has driven service development, transformation, and digitisation. As Telecare Manager at Vale of Glamorgan Council, she oversees technology-enabled care, promoting falls prevention initiatives and digitising reporting for timely NHS follow-ups. Previously, as Registration Service Manager, Rachel transformed ceremony services, creating the Your Vale Ceremony; brand, developing an online planner, and launching a dedicated website, increasing ceremony bookings by 20%. At Cardiff Council, as Senior Registrar in Bereavement Services, she led key projects like online bookings and the return to use of Victorian cemetery chapels. Rachel’s career is marked by a commitment to excellence, community engagement, and innovative service delivery.
Ivan Terekhov, is a data architect and the Director of Research Informatics, Ai and Technology at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute. He is also a current AMS-Fitzgerald Fellow in AI and Human Centred Leadership as the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.
