From the first day leading the management of the Executive Superintendence of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, in May 2023, with fundamental support from Superintendent Bosco Saraiva, I began a process of disseminating the "ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) culture in the ZFM. Since then, I can't say it has been simple or easy, but it has been a rewarding challenge, both internally and externally. Little by little, it is already possible to see the small advances achieved.

The first step was taken, in partnership with CIEAM (especially the ESG Committee), on July 27, 2023, with the free meeting entitled "ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and Best Practices Implemented in Companies." Representatives of companies from the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM) discussed and demonstrated the local industry's progress toward ESG best practices in the SUFRAMA auditorium. This event was crucial for two reasons—besides being the kickoff—it allowed us to understand the current status of the topic within the Manaus Industrial Pole and to disseminate our ambition to make the Manaus Free Trade Zone more connected to ESG practices.

Concurrently, we began internal studies to understand how to apply ESG within the agency and in public development policy for the Western Amazon, the Manaus Free Trade Zone. In this regard, the TCU's research instrument, iESGo (an index created by the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) to analyze organizational governance and social and environmental sustainability initiatives in public administration), was crucial for Suframa to understand its current situation and create a Plan of Measures for the future.

In 2024, we continued to advance partnerships—in addition to the ever-present CIEAM—with Rede Amazônica. On March 25th of that year, we held the 1st ESG Amazon Forum, also at Suframa's headquarters. The event was a huge success and solidified Suframa, CIEAM, and Rede Amazônica as key players and disseminators of ESG in the region. Furthermore, the first companies, such as Visteon, BIC, Electrolux, FLEX, IMPRAM, and Tutiplast, began to present objective results, effectively seeking to advance ESG.

After this event, it became clear that ESG is a journey and, therefore, a process that won't happen overnight, but that without effective commitment from everyone, progress won't occur. I was pleased to hear Superintendent Bosco Saraiva ask me to continue "advancing ESG." This motivated me to remain steadfast in our commitment to publicizing our goal: to make the Manaus Free Trade Zone the most ESG-friendly industrial hub on the planet. In 2025, we kicked off the year with training on ESG practices for SUFRAMA employees. On February 6th, the "ESG - Environmental, Social, and Governance" training was delivered in partnership with the Amazonas Industry Center (Cieam) to SUFRAMA employees. The training aimed to disseminate knowledge and stimulate internal debate on sustainable practices within SUFRAMA and, subsequently, in public policy for the Manaus Free Trade Zone. This type of event seeks to raise awareness among employees so they understand the topic and assist the administration in implementing it.

On March 21, 2025, Suframa and CIEAM hosted the "2nd Amazon ESG Forum," themed "CIEAM and SUFRAMA Towards COP30." The event aimed to prepare industries in the Manaus Industrial Complex for COP30, which will take place in November 2025 in Belém, Pará. This meeting, in a pre-COP30 format, sought to promote relevant and constructive discussions on how companies can incorporate sustainability principles into their operations, considering environmental, social, and governance aspects. The Amazon, as one of the world's richest regions in biodiversity and natural resources, plays a central role in this dialogue and will be highlighted as an example of the balance between economic development and environmental preservation.

During the "2nd Amazon ESG Forum", a voluntary initiative called MANAUS FREE ZONE MORE ESG - ZFM+ESG was launched. Companies that voluntarily join the initiative commit to disseminating and fostering ESG practices within their organizations.

Since then, we have secured the support of several companies linked to the Manaus Free Trade Zone, such as Coca-Cola, LG, BIC, Visteon, and others. This demonstrates that it is possible to align industrial development with ESG!

Our dream will soon become a reality: the Manaus Free Trade Zone will be the most ESG-friendly Industrial Hub on the planet!
