The European Commission has brought together cities and businesses to create a variety of robots to help the elderly continue living at home even as they develop more health problems. These range from telepresence robots that let families "visit" remotely to robotic arms that make it easier to pick things up and intelligent walkers that help them get around. As Europe's population ages, the number of people needing help with everyday tasks is increasing; some nine million people need help getting out of bed.
